The Schneider Hotel is a family-friendly lodge-style, ski-in ski-out hotel located just above the Hikage Gondola Base Station at Nozawa Onsen Snow Resort, one of the oldest ski resorts in Japan.
The two main base stations are Hikage and Nagasaka. The Schneider Hotel is about a 7 minute walk over snow from Hikage Station. When arriving to Nozawa Onsen, many guests make their way to The Craft Room, the ski in/out cafe and bar we also operate very close to Nagasaka Station.
Most people who come to Nozawa Onsen will take the bullet train to Iiyama Station and then take a bus bus to Nozawa Onsen Village. The Nozawa Liner Bus is a comfortable bus that leaves about 8-10 minutes after the arrival of every bullet train from Tokyo to Iiyama Station EXCEPT the last train of the day. Click here to download the 2016-17 Nozawa Liner Bus Schedule to/from Iiyama Station and Nozawa Onsen (Chuo Bus Terminal). Please note that if you arrive on the last train from Tokyo you will need to take a taxi.
SCHNEIDER PRIVATE SHUTTLE
If you would like to request a private shuttle to/from Iiyama Station and Nozawa Onsen please contact us to reserve. Availability is limited and our van seats 7 persons, so it usually fits up to 5 persons with luggage. We can pick up or drop off at Iiyama Station and take you directly to The Craft Room or the Shinyu Pair Lift so you can quickly get up to the hotel.
BY DIRECT AIRPORT TAXI FROM NARITA AIRPORT
If you are coming to Nozawa Onsen directly from Narita Airport by airport shuttle, please ask your driver to drop you off at The Craft Room near the Nagasaka Gondola. If the driver doesn’t know The Craft Room tell them “Yama no Ohtaki Hotel” or Ohtaki Hotel,” which is just behind The Craft Room and makes an easy drop-off point.
The Schneider Hotel has regular shuttle services to/from The Craft Room between 6:30pm and 10:30pm in the evening. If you arrive before that you can take one of the free snowmobile shuttles that runs near The Craft Room regularly from 8:30am to 4:30pm. If you are carrying large luggage we can arrange for it to be held at The Craft Room until our luggage truck can come down and take it to the hotel.
Day-time Arrival (8:30am – 4:00pm)
The easiest way to get to the hotel if you arrive during the day is to take the Shinyu Pair Lift (8:30am and 4:30pm). It’s a beautiful ride up and from the top of the lift its just a 2-minute walk to the hotel. If you have heavy bags you will want to drop them taken up to The Craft Room by our hotel staff before walking to the pair lift from the Chuo Bus Stop. It is about a 4-minute walk. We recommend you download and print out a copy of the village’s Detailed Village Map before you arrive.
Since it is possible to drive to the back of The Craft Rooms so taxis can drop you and your bags off here before making your way up to the hotel. The ski resort runs regular snowmobile shuttles to/from Hikage Station and Nagasaka Station during resort operating hours and there is a pick-up point just across from The Craft Room. It is a fun, easy way to get up to the hotel, although you will have to walk up over snow from Hikage Station. Guests exploring the village can also take the Yu Road (8:30am and 4:30pm), a 300-meter covered moving walkway up or down to the village. The top of Yu Road is just a 5-7 minute walk from the hotel.
If you are arriving by Nozawa Liner Bus during the day, please walk across the parking lot to Crossroad Cafe and ask them to give us a call if you need a luggage pickup. You can also book snow monkey tours and other day tours. They will call us and we can send a driver down to help you with your luggage.
After the resort closes, The Schneider Hotel runs a regular snow van shuttle to/from The Craft Room at Nagasaka Station from 6:30 to 10:30pm. If you are arriving after 4pm you will need to take a taxi or walk up to The Craft Room to get on one of the evening snow van shuttles up to the hotel. The first shuttle van usually leaves about 5:30pm.
Please be careful walking up or down the hills in the village as it can be slippery and hard to see icy areas, especially at night. Wear proper footwear, take your time, and enjoy the scenery. Don’t be afraid to take a rest at one of the free footbaths or hot springs in the village.
Taki no yu is the closest free hot spring to the hotel (800 meters away).
The Schneider Hotel’s location on the mountain makes it an amazing place for a ski holiday, but there are some logistics getting to the hotel so we do discourage late arrivals. If you do arrive after the last shuttle bus leaves The Craft Room (at 10:30pm) you will need to have reserved a late-night pickup prior to arrival. For people arriving on a late night bus, note that there is an additional fee of 3,000 yen for a late night pickup as we do have to have staff stay up and wait for the bus or taxi company to call us. We cannot arrange late night pick-ups on the day of arrival, they must be reserved when you confirm your booking, so please keep this in mind when booking flights.
MAPS & RESOURCES
Check out our Illustrated Access Map highlighting important landmarks and the main routes to the hotel. You can download the PDF Version here. Please note that the Illustrated Map is for reference only. We suggest downloading the Detailed Village Map before you leave as well and keep it on hand when arriving.
Takyubin / Courier Service
If you are sending your ski/snowboard gear or baggage to the hotel prior to your arrival, please use Yamato or Sagawa takyubin service as they deliver to the hotel (via snow vehicle). Please make sure the name matches the name of your reservation so we know where to place your gear.
